Gouda candles
In 1853, three gentlemen from Gouda founded the 'Stearine Kaarsenfabriek' (Stearin Candle Factory). This quickly proved to be a success and on February 24, 1858, the N.V. (public limited company) was established. In 1899, the company was awarded the designation 'Royal'. The factory is the founder of the genuine, original Gouda Candles. These are available at various locations in Gouda. Ask VVV Gouda for the addresses.
Thousands of Gouda candles illuminate the old town hall during Gouda by Candlelight, one of the oldest light festivals in the Netherlands.
