Ter Gouw is an old name for the city of Gouda. Until the 20th century, it was customary among residents in the vicinity of Gouda to refer to the city as Ter Gouw. On an old print in the city archives, Ter Gouw is indicated as Ter:Govw. This print served as inspiration for the name of the restaurant and has been given a prominent place in the restaurant.
