Many unnecessary car journeys are still being made every day. More than half of all car journeys are shorter than 7.5 kilometers. These trips are often frustrating due to traffic and parking congestion in the city. Alderman for Mobility Michel Klijmij-van der Laan: "An electric cargo bike is a sustainable alternative for these trips. It also reduces pressure on parking spaces and traffic jams in the city and keeps Gouda liveable and attractive."
How does it work?
The shared cargo bikes are provided by the Dutch company BAQME and are available at 12 locations throughout the city of Gouda. The BAQME app can be used to find and reserve the nearest cargo bike. The app can also be used to start and end the ride and make payments.
The maximum speed with pedal assistance is 25 km/h, and a full battery lasts for approximately 80 to 100 kilometers. The box has a maximum load capacity of 80 kilograms. The cost is €0.10 per minute, with a maximum of €20 per trip per day. After the trip, the e-cargo bike must be parked back at the place where the trip started. In Gouda, the 12 shared cargo bikes have fixed locations.
