The fruit trees are laden with blossoms, the flower fields are endless, and the Mediterranean towns are sultry... Summer bursts from the canvas in Jo Koster's works! In more than 90 paintings and drawings, Museum Gouda brings the colorful universe of this idiosyncratic artist to life. The exhibition 'Jo Koster, artist' is on display until January 4, 2026.
Influence
Jo Koster has a large network and is friends with many other artists. She is inspired by them, but not led by them. In her art, she always seeks her own path. From classical portraits to post-impressionist landscapes: she applies a variety of styles and continues to develop.
Decision tree
Jo Koster constantly makes sharp choices in her life and work. Theater maker Katinka Polderman uses her decision trees in publications such as de Volkskrant and LINDA to illustrate the effects of choices and choice stress like no other. Especially for the exhibition, Polderman created a decision tree that allows you to search for the Jo Koster in yourself.
Tactile painting
In later life, Jo Koster developed an eye disease that caused her to partially lose her sight. She did not let this get her down and continued to work hard with her glasses covered up. A tactile painting has been developed especially for people with visual impairments at this exhibition. This allows everyone to experience Jo Koster's work.
Activities
There is plenty to do at this exhibition, such as an afternoon of lectures and various introductory tours. You can also get to work in the open studio. Are you visiting the exhibition with children? Then take along the special travel case full of fun and creative assignments for young and old. See the Museum Gouda website for dates and more information.
