As a free city in the Middle Ages, the wealthy town of Gouda was worth its weight in gold. That is, if you were allowed through the gates. In times of unrest, the militia took control. The gates were closed and you were left standing outside in the cold on the edge of the city. That spot on the edge of the city is now home to GOUDasfalt, an industrial site where free spirits such as art and culture lovers are always welcome.
During the walking tour, you will pass the Chocolate Factory, St. Janskerk, Museum Gouda, and the Onze Lieve Vrouwentoren, among other sights. Of course, there are plenty of nice restaurants and terraces along the route where you can enjoy a drink or a bite to eat.
