Gouda as Animal Museum - 3.5 km

Gouda as Animal Museum - 3.5 km

If you love animals, art, and walking, then why not try an animal art trail!

Gouda: city of Gouda cheese, Gouda pipes, Gouda candles, Gouda pottery, and of course stroopwafels! But also city of facade stones.

Many of these facade stones feature images of animals. Other animal ornaments or statues can also be admired in the city center. One prominent statue is that of a man carrying a donkey, on the corner of Lage Gouwe (opposite the Lichtfabriek), because that statue, Jack-ass, immediately raises questions about its meaning (see the description under point 8).
There are a few extra interesting spots along the route, such as the garden of the Museum Gouda, where a number of (animal) facade stones from elsewhere in the city are on display. But it is also (in any case) worth visiting the famous 'Gouda windows' in St. John's Church. The dog, for example, is depicted more than 20 times here, often as a symbol of loyalty.

On this animal route, you will also encounter lions, which often flank the city coat of arms of Gouda, fish, birds, squirrels, cows, a whale, and many other animals.

The walk takes you past beautiful animal art and places in the center of Gouda.
