Tabak&Naus exhibits at galleries in the Netherlands and abroad.
Marjan Tabak has been drawing and creating since childhood. Even then, her unique perspective was evident. Fascinated by human learning, Marjan Tabak studied at the University of Twente to design learning pathways.
The other member of the artist duo, Jos Naus, often spent time in his father's workshop as a child. This is how he learned to work with various materials, such as wood and metal. He decided to study Applied Educational Science at the University of Twente because he was fascinated by human psychology.
Discover&experiment
After experimenting with various creative techniques, from screen printing to silversmithing, the duo discovered sculpture. They were challenged by the task of designing a sculpture for a new table. They had a clear idea of what the colorful sculpture should look like, but realizing it was another matter. With the help of a book on sculpting techniques, the duo eagerly set to work experimenting. Using paper pulp, papier-mâché, and Styrofoam, they succeeded in creating their first sculptures, which were already in their now familiar style. Through enthusiastic experimentation, the technique and the sculptures continued to develop. Tabak&Naus started working with synthetic resin and polyester. It wasn't long before the first gallery called with an invitation to exhibit. More followed naturally...
Marvel & see things differently
Tabak&Naus marvel at the world around them. They translate this into metaphorical animal figures. Their optimistic philosophy of life is very recognizable in Tabak&Naus's artworks. Characteristic of their work is the way they play with the bright colors of their fixed palette.
Now & Future
Tabak&Naus exhibit at galleries in the Netherlands and abroad. Their work can be found in collections belonging to organizations and private individuals, from Budapest to Bodegraven, from Shanghai to Verviers. Tabak&Naus are often commissioned to create sculptures measuring several meters in height that are suitable for outdoor display.
In addition, Tabak&Naus offers workshops where people can train their creative thinking skills and create their own works of art.
Tobacco&Naus want to continue pushing boundaries in the future. Experimenting with other materials and innovating artworks. The duo wants to continue inviting viewers to look at things differently.
