Open Monument Day | Heritage & Architecture

Open Monument Day | Heritage & Architecture - Featured

Open Monument Day 2025 celebrates the rich diversity of old buildings around us through their varied architectural styles and functions. Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque & Rococo (the Louis styles), (Neo)classicism, and 19th-century neo-styles, including Eclecticism, seal our shared history and cultural identity.

Continued by 20th-century architecture: Jugendstil (Art Nouveau), Art Deco, Amsterdam School, Nieuwe Bouwen, and Traditionalism (Delft School). These were in turn followed by post-war architectural movements, including Post65.

THE DRIVE FOR INNOVATION AROUND 1900 - Know what you see

In Gouda, we are paying special attention to our local architects (approx. 1860-1940) this year.

Slogan: 'The drive for innovation around 1900 – know what you see'

Big names include C.P.W. Dessing (St. Joseph's Church, nicknamed the Gouwekerk), as well as his son Jac. P. Dessing (St. Joseph's Pavilion). As well as H. J. Nederhorst (including the Regentesseplantsoen residences), Dirk Stuurman (Knox and Dortland bank on Turfmarkt) and Herman Stuurman (De Lichtfabrieken). And, of course, Henk de Meer (builder of the iconic Kadeschool in Amsterdam school style).

The complete program will be published on the website in June 2025. Or download the PDF of the program booklet when it becomes available. Detailed descriptions of each monument can be found on the national Open Monument Day website: www.openmonumentendag.nl.
