The Gouda Christmas Market

The Gouda Christmas Market brings together more than 50 artists, live music, and children's performances in the Gouda Theater.

On Saturday, December 20, the Goudse Schouwburg will be transformed into a festive winter wonderland during the Gouda Christmas Market. On the stage of the Kleine Zaal, more than fifty artists from Gouda will present their most beautiful creations, from new makers to established names. The diversity is striking: painting, jewelry, illustration, ceramics, textiles, design, and everything in between. The event runs from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and admission is free.

Throughout the day, the building buzzes with live acts. There are three children's performances of Een Magisch Kerstcircus (A Magical Christmas Circus), and Cato the Christmas Elf cheerfully wanders through the theater. Musical talent takes center stage with a performance by Kunstbende participant Lois Godeken and an atmospheric jazz set by saxophonist Sam Leaf, who gives well-known Christmas hits a new twist. Vinyl DJ Vanja Treffers provides a warm, analog sound as visitors stroll past the stalls. There is also a performance and video clip presentation by Dickeldaan, two musical friends from the Vogelbuurt neighborhood. Their song Gouda was created in collaboration with Reyer Zwanenburg, a student at the Coornhert Gymnasium, who learned how to make a professional video clip from scratch in just one year. This year, the market also welcomes four students from the Classical Portrait Group of the Garenspinnerij, who paint under the guidance of artist Suzan Schuttelaar. Their work is displayed side by side with that of local professional artists, showcasing the power and breadth of Gouda art.
